About this game

Play liar's dice against three foxes at a gambling den behind a shrine at night. Everyone rolls five dice and keeps them hidden under a cup. Take turns bidding, for example, “There are at least six fours among everyone's dice.”

Think the previous bid is a lie? Call “Liar!” Everyone lifts their cups and counts. Whoever was wrong loses a tail. You each start with three tails. Take all three foxes' tails to win.

Play in a browser on your phone or computer. No download or sign-up needed.

How to play

  1. Play
Press the play button on the title screen. On your first visit, read the guide to the den, then take your seat.
  2. Check your dice
After shaking the cup, your five dice appear at the bottom of the screen. You can't see the foxes' dice.
  3. Make a bid
Choose a face using the die icons, set the quantity with “−” and “+,” then bid. You must raise the quantity, or keep the quantity and raise the face value.
  4. Call “Liar!”
If you think the previous bid is impossible, call “Liar!” All cups are lifted. If there are at least as many matching dice as claimed, the bid is true and the challenger loses a tail. Otherwise, the bidder loses one.
  5. Next round
The player who lost a tail starts the next round. Lose all your tails and you lose the game. Eliminate all three foxes to win.

Winning and counting dice

Only dice showing exactly the bid face count. Ones aren't wild. A count exactly equal to the bid is also true.

Losing tails doesn't reduce your dice; you still have five. A fox with no tails leaves the table, reducing the total dice from 20 to 15 to 10.

The result screen shows whether you won, how many tails you have left and how many rounds you played.

Tips

★ Start with your own dice
You know your own dice are there. If you have two fours, a bid of five fours comes down to whether three of the remaining 15 dice are fours.
★ Watch the foxes' tells
The Fox Lady blows smoke rings, the White Fox twitches an ear and the Little Fox swishes its tail. These are more likely on uncertain bids. They can appear on true bids too, and sometimes don't appear on suspicious ones.
★ Raise the face before the quantity
Keeping the same quantity and raising the face is a valid bid. Sometimes you don't need to push the quantity higher.
★ Reconsider the odds when a fox leaves
One fox leaving removes five dice. A bid that seemed reasonable with 20 dice becomes much less likely.
★ The White Fox doesn't inflate the count much
The White Fox doesn't make bluff bids above the likely count. The Fox Lady and Little Fox sometimes add 1–3 to it.

Common questions

Q. A fox showed its tell, but the bid was true
A. Tells are more likely when a fox isn't confident based on its own dice. They aren't proof of a lie. The bid can still be true.
Q. Can the foxes see my dice?
A. No. They use only their own dice, the number of dice at the table and the previous bid.
Q. Is there a time limit on my turn?
A. No. Take your time.
Q. Can I play in English?
A. Press “EN” on the title screen to switch to English.
Q. Can I play against friends?
A. For now, it's a single-player game with you and three foxes.
