Hi, I'm hakairyuousinn (my X account).

I made Rokuro, a game where you throw a pot on a wheel and have it appraised.Play Rokuro for free.
It runs right in your browser, on a phone or PC.

Rokuro's opening screen: a vase with green glaze dripping down it, on a pottery wheel in a workshop
The opening screen. This vase has an Oribe glaze

One go takes about 40 seconds.

How to play

  1. Trace the left side of the spinning clay with your finger, or a mouse on PC. Move up to make it taller, push inward to narrow it, or pull outward to widen it.
  2. You have 25 seconds. You can press “Done” early too.
  3. Choose one of three glazes, Oribe, Tenmoku or Celadon, and fire it in the kiln.
  4. You get an appraisal certificate with a name and a price for your pot.

You can save the certificate as an image or post it on X. Opening a shared link shows a certificate with the same pot rotating on it.

Make it too thin and it collapses

If the pot gets too thin and tall, or sticks out too far, it starts wobbling and collapses.
You can keep going until time runs out, and it gets fired in whatever shape it's in.

And yes, collapsed pots get a price too. A big collapse can count as “avant-garde” and make it worth more…

In the first version, the clay wouldn't stretch

Codex built the game, and I fixed it while Claude Code played it. The first version was pretty bad.

First, the clay wouldn't stretch. Even after four strokes, its height barely changed. I couldn't make a jar or a vase.
It never collapsed either. Collapsing is supposed to be the punchline of this game.

After I fixed the stretching, the collapse was too mild. The rim rippled a little and the pot tilted slightly.
That wasn't funny, so I made the top half fold sideways with a wet splat.

There was also a pot worth ¥640,000 right after playing that became ¥450,513 when opened from a shared link. Same pot, different price. About the worst thing an appraiser could do.

Players found the trick to high prices

After release, I looked through posts with #ロクロ and saw quite a few at the ¥12,000,000 cap. Most had names starting with “Avant-garde Distortion…”
They'd figured out that deliberately warping the pot makes it more valuable.

Other people were laughing at pots worth only a few hundred yen. Probably less than the materials cost, they said.

Some people said they couldn't work out the controls. I think the opening instructions need to be clearer…
